Many companies have tried using potable water copper and silver ionisation systems to treat water-cooling towers. These companies have only had limited success as they have taken a system that is not designed to treat the much heavier influx of bacteria and have plumbed it straight onto the cooling tower circuit.
ProEconomy developed a completely separate copper and silver ionisation system “The Barracuda” solely for treating cooling tower water. The Barracuda delivers far greater levels of copper and silver ions. These high levels of ion concentration are required as the bacteria levels in cooling towers are huge compared to potable mains water and concentration limits can be increased as no one is ingesting the treated water.
The first Barracuda system was installed at the European Space Agency in Noordwijk, in the Netherlands, to treat their five cooling towers. Within a month it had completely eradicated their persistent Legionella. Legionella that withstood traditional chemical treatment.
