We founded ProEconomy, the UK market leader in copper and silver water ionisation for hot and cold water systems, in 1993, originally focussing on solar hot water systems and other non-chemical water treatments.
We initially developed an ionisation system for swimming pools. Building on this experience the first generation Orca system was developed for potable water and installed in Aylesbury Vale NHS Trust sites in 1995.
The Company has developed rapidly since those early days, and during the 1990s the Orca system rapidly gained acceptance within the NHS and is installed in many hospitals and health care facilities, both large and small. Please click on ‘clients’.
The growth of the company is based on our personal service and a philosophy of coupling the Orca system with a comprehensive water testing program to provide complete peace of mind to all those for whom Legionella-free and clean water is a priority.
The reputation of ProEconomy in the health care sector has enabled us to develop into the corporate sector. In 2001 the Orca system was installed in the HSBC headquarters in Canary Wharf, London and in 2002 a system was installed in the European Space Agency in Holland.

We spend a lot of time and money on research and development and installed a prototype system to control Legionella in cooling tower water in August 2004. Results are impressive with no Legionella bacteria found within 3 weeks after installation of the system.
Birgitta also completed a Masters Degree at Cranfield University two years ago, and is now studying for a PhD in Legionella control covering not only copper and silver ionisation but other methods including chlorine dioxide.
We have ISO 9001 certification, EU Eureka Status, our products are EMC tested and approved.
